Radio Bukalanga hosted an award ceremony for its staff and volunteers at its Plumtree based Gwakuba studios, where outstanding individuals were recognized for their dedication and contributions to the community radio station.

The event which was broadcast live on Air with listeners tuning in was graced by representatives from Plumtree Town Council, the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement, and Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services. Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training amongst other Government departments Member of Parliament for Mangwe, Honourable Vincent Sihlabo, was also in attendance, alongside Radio Bukalanga Board members and its Chairperson, Mr. Ntando Dumani.

Speaking during the ceremony, Honourable V.Sihlabo recognised the Community Radio’s impact within the society in its reach and its potential impact,”..I realise that we are in the process of setting up a tech college and we could use Radio Bukalanga as a platform of raising awareness among young people on courses they can take up thus we beed to utilise it to utiliseto grow the interest ofyoung people.”
He further went on to mention that government can also work with the Radio Bukalanga in a number of ways, “As government departments you must be innovative and use the station to relay some of their work so as the community you work with know the programmes you have..”

Patience Malatsi was awarded the Outstanding Dedication Award, acknowledging her tireless efforts and commitment to the radio station. Mqiniseli Sola received the Innovative Content Creator Award, highlighting his creativity and innovative approach to content creation. Godwin Gumbo was awarded the Rising Star Volunteer Award, recognizing his potential and contributions to the radio station. The Station Manager, Yvonne Tshedu Buzwane was a double award recipient, taking home the Board Chair’s Community Impact Award and the Radio Bukalanga Brand Ambassador Award, recognizing her exceptional leadership and dedication to promoting the radio station’s mission, vision and values.

Radio Bukalanga, as a community radio station, continues to play a vital role in promoting access to information, amplifying the voices of community members, and fostering public participation with an ultimate goal of being a model community radio station. With a talented and dedicated team, Radio Bukalanga continues to make a positive impact in the community it serves, and the award ceremony was a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of its team members.
